Skowhegan Men's Shelter
"Shelter By Jesus"
|
Welcome to the homepage of a homeless shelter completely staffed by homeless people. WHAT? You read correctly! Many of the men who have walked in through the doors of this shelter having nothing are actually running this place! Many have lost jobs, lost their homes and yet have found a new lease on life by entering into this shelter; finding purpose and wholeness - giving themselves to the mission and vision of the organization.
This shelter, located Skowhegan, Maine is the first in a long line of shelters that are being setup across the nation. The somewhat unorthodox method of having the residents run the facility and establish it by feeding, clothing and helping others find gainful employment is nothing short of miraculous...and it works! |

Please consider supporting the Trinity Men's Shelter Mission. I think the most important aspect of what has happened in Skowhegan is the "Love" of Christ that has been showered on the 100's of residents and volunteers that have been in any small way associated with the Shelter. Aside from that, this is the BEST charitable giving opportunity on the market. Why, you say? Consider there is not one cent of overhead! It is staffed by the residents who are given room and board, Pastor Berry is the volunteer director/Pastor as he is paid by Trinity. Bookkeeping is done by volunteer staff. Presently there are 70 people under the care of the shelter, including 6 children. About 200 meals, 100 loads of laundry not to mention a lot of office work (intakes, medication distribution answering the phone)., Getting kids in schools, getting wood ready for heat and hot water, getting jobs, helping the town with work it cannot afford to pay workers to do, and the list goes on. This is a multifaceted ministry that is run by the residents who have hearts of Jesus for the next one who knocks and needs to be let in. If you listen to the words of Pete Bolduc's song you will get the gist of our Saviors footprint here. This is a 501c3 non-profit, won't you please join in and receive the blessing so many of us have. Check, PayPal, directly from your bank, or call the office and the staff can give you an idea what the needs are at present. Thanks in advance and God Bless.
What we are asking is for 40-80 to pledge $50 per month. This would ensure the ongoing operation of the shelter, serving nearly 200 meals a day, operating the laundromat and the office, all done by the resident staff.
